Today was a big day! We met the kids at the Lycee (french high school) and they were very excited to tell one another about their experiences. Next we visited the ruins in St. Pierre...the capital city destroyed by the eruption of Mt Pelee. See attached photo of kids in the prison cell that housed the lone survivor of the catastrophe... the other 30,000 inhabitants perished in the blast. Next we visited Depaz and learned about how they process sugar cane and make it into rhum. Finally we went rappelling down several waterfalls in the tropical forest of Martinique with an excellent guide. We were very proud of your kids! They all did great even if rappelling was out of their comfort zone. Pictures of the rappelling will have to wait because Mlle and Kendra are the only ones with waterproof cameras... Tomorrow the kids are having an impromptu breakfast with the principal, a half-day of school and then will hopefully all get to go the Jardins de Balata with their host siblings!
